Well this was a quick (and my first) foray into Matte Painting, for a thread on CGtalk. Its a practice thread, only allowing for brushing. no use of masking and such (not that i knew how to mask anyway)..

For what it is i thought it was successfull. Sure its an absolute mess and compositionally challenged, but it forced me to think realistically and i can confidently say, I enjoyed myself, Colour scheme needed to suit environment. (id like to iterate that this is brushing over a photograph) Orginal photo rference is on the thread also. I'm sorry, the original photographer is not known.

need to slow down alot aswell.

Most matte painting, atleast at first, utilises reference and stock imagery. Just depends what you do with it.
